Ear Correction

Discreetly beautiful ears. Natural shape. Renewed self-confidence.

Ear Correction

Protruding or deformed ears can unbalance the face and affect one’s well-being. Ear correction (otoplasty) restores the natural shape and position of the ears – for a more harmonious overall appearance and increased self-confidence.

PD Dr. med. Eva M. Rüegg performs ear corrections using a particularly natural technique via the back of the ear, without introducing any foreign material. The scars remain invisible, and the result is permanent and natural-looking.

The procedure is suitable for both adults and children, provided that ear growth is largely complete – typically from around 10 to 11 years of age. It is crucial that the desire for correction originates from the child themselves, so that they actively participate in the treatment and necessary aftercare. Enlarged earlobes or torn earlobes can also be precisely reconstructed.

The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or twilight sleep. Thanks to local anesthesia, the procedure is not painful, and the aesthetic result is visible immediately after treatment.

Advantages with corrigé

Individual Planning

Dr. Rüegg takes the time for a detailed discussion and a precise analysis of the ear structure. Wishes and aesthetic goals are defined together based on anatomical conditions.

Invisible Scars

The incision is made via the back of the ear. This ensures that scars are not visible from the outside, and the result appears completely natural.

Permanent Results

The surgical technique does not require internal sutures. This eliminates typical problems such as string formation, infections, or the ears protruding again.

Gentle Treatment & Quick Recovery

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or twilight sleep. The recovery time is short, and most patients are socially presentable again after 1 - 2 weeks.

A Comprehensive Guide

Principle

01

Ear correction (otoplasty) optimizes the shape, size, or position of the ears to create a harmonious, natural overall appearance. Precise modeling of the ear cartilage allows for a lasting improvement in ear shape.

Technique

02

The procedure is performed via the back of the ear, so scars remain invisible. The ear cartilage is remodeled without the use of internal sutures to ensure stability and a long-lasting result.

Areas

03

Protruding ears, asymmetrical shapes, deformed ears, as well as enlarged or torn earlobes are corrected. Enlarged ear piercings can also be reconstructed to achieve an aesthetically balanced appearance.

A person wearing gloves examines a woman's ear with long brown hair, standing sideways against a light background.

Preparation

04

Before ear correction, a comprehensive consultation takes place. Your health status is assessed, and your wishes as well as possible alternatives are discussed. The exact aftercare is also explained. For procedures involving twilight sleep, the anesthesiologist will conduct a preliminary discussion.

Procedure

05

Ear correction typically takes between 1 and 2 hours and is performed on an outpatient basis. The treatment is carried out either under local anesthesia or twilight sleep, depending on individual preference. You can go home immediately after the procedure.

A person with closed eyes receives a facial treatment, while hands in blue gloves gently touch their face.

Healing

06

The healing phase is uncomplicated, with slight swelling and pressure sensations being normal in the first few days. A headband is worn for a total of eight weeks – initially day and night for four weeks, then only at night for another four weeks. Swelling subsides in the first few weeks, and the final result becomes apparent after approximately 3–6 months.

Result

07

The result is immediately visible, but it takes a few weeks for all swelling to subside. Ear correction provides a permanent, harmonious result that typically lasts a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here we answer the most important questions about ear correction.

Who is ear correction suitable for?

Ear correction is ideal for individuals suffering from protruding, asymmetrical, or deformed ears. It is also suitable for patients with torn or enlarged earlobes. This procedure can be performed on both adults and children, as it is effective even at a young age to harmonize the appearance of the ears.

The procedure is generally painless. It is performed under local anesthesia or twilight sleep, so you will not experience any pain during the treatment. After the procedure, a slight pressure on the ears may occur, but this quickly subsides. The use of high-quality anesthetics and a pleasant atmosphere during the operation ensure that the procedure is as comfortable as possible for you.

Healing after ear correction is usually rapid and uncomplicated. After about 1-2 weeks, most patients are socially presentable, as external swelling and bruising quickly subside. For the first four weeks after the procedure, you must wear a special headband that protects the ears and helps stabilize the new shape. The final result becomes apparent after 3–6 months, once all swelling has subsided and the ears are fully healed.

The result of ear correction is permanent. The ear cartilage is brought into its new shape by the procedure, and the ears generally remain stable. A recurrence of protruding ears is very rare, so you can expect a natural, long-lasting result. Since no internal sutures are used in the treatment, fewer complications arise, and the result remains stable.

At corrigé, you receive individually tailored treatment that is customized to your needs and wishes. PD Dr. med. Eva M. Rüegg is an experienced specialist who performs the procedure with the highest precision and avoids the use of internal sutures. This eliminates foreign body-associated risks, making the procedure safer overall and enabling particularly stable, natural results – without the risk of string formation or infections. Your treatment takes place in a safe and professional environment, and you receive comprehensive aftercare to ensure the best possible outcome.
