Eyelid Lift

For an alert, clear, and rejuvenated look

Eyelid Lift

Drooping eyelid skin, hooded eyelids, or a heavy-looking upper eyelid can restrict the field of vision and lead to a tired, strained expression. Similarly, prominent eye bags, sagging lower eyelid skin, or hollows under the eyes can contribute to a perpetually exhausted appearance. An upper or lower eyelid lift opens up the gaze and brings new lightness to the entire eye area.

In a personal consultation, PD Dr. med. Eva M. Rüegg analyzes your individual eyelid and skin situation and explains which corrections are sensible and possible. The procedure is precisely adapted to your anatomy to achieve a natural, harmonious result.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, using gentle techniques and fine incisions along the natural eyelid crease for the upper eyelid, or just below the lash line or internally for the lower eyelid. This typically ensures that scars remain inconspicuous and the recovery period is usually short.

From consultation to complete aftercare, Dr. Rüegg personally accompanies you – with extensive expertise in aesthetic eyelid surgery, precise execution, and a clear commitment to natural, aesthetically pleasing results.

Success Stories from our Patients

A comprehensive guide

Effect

01

With increasing skin laxity, a heavy, tired upper eyelid develops, while eye bags, wrinkles, or shadows on the lower eyelid can additionally make the face appear tired. An upper or lower eyelid lift opens up the gaze and brings lightness to the entire eye area.

Anatomy

02

Excess skin, fat pads, eyelid crease, and muscle structure determine the type and extent of the procedure. Precise analysis ensures a harmonious, individualized result for both upper and lower eyelids.

Methods

03

Depending on the findings, the incision technique and correction method differ. For the upper eyelid, correction is made in the natural eyelid crease; for the lower eyelid, depending on the situation, via a fine incision below the lash line or an internal approach for fat redistribution. The goal is always a natural, aesthetically pleasing result without visible overcorrection.

Naturalness

04

A good result is recognized by the fact that the expression remains unchanged – only fresher. Experience, restraint, and millimeter-precise planning are crucial, both for skin removal on the upper eyelid and for the sensitive modeling of the lower eyelid region.

Eye area

05

The tightening not only makes the eyelid appear lighter: the lower eyelid, tear trough region, and transition to the cheek can also appear significantly smoother and rejuvenated. The entire eye region looks clearer, more open, and often significantly younger.

Durability

06

The effect of an upper or lower eyelid lift is long-lasting. Natural skin aging continues, but the eyelid remains permanently tighter than before. In rare cases, a re-tightening is possible if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here we answer the most important questions about upper eyelid lift.
How do I find out if an eyelid lift is right for me?

An eyelid lift can be beneficial if you suffer from sagging skin, hooded eyelids, eye bags, or a tired facial expression – even if you feel alert and vital. A restricted field of vision due to severely drooping upper eyelids can also be a reason for treatment. In a personal consultation, we clarify whether an upper eyelid lift, lower eyelid lift, or a combination of both procedures is suitable for you.

We perform both upper and lower eyelid lifts – depending on the findings and your wishes. The goal is to remove or reposition excess skin and/or fatty tissue. The procedures are performed with micro-fine incisions and state-of-the-art technology to achieve a natural result with minimal scarring.

Upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid lift) is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, while lower blepharoplasty (lower eyelid lift) is mostly performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with twilight sleep. The procedure takes approximately 1–2 hours. Temporary swelling or bruising may occur after the operation. The eye area is diligently cooled, especially at the beginning. We remove the sutures after five to seven days. After that, your eye area is usually already significantly recovered.

Mild pain or a feeling of tension in the eyelids may occur after the procedure, but can be well controlled by cooling the eyelids. Many of our patients are surprised how quickly a natural and harmonious feeling for their own expression returns after the procedure.

After the procedure, cooling the eyelids is particularly important to minimize swelling. For dry or burning eyes, we recommend the regular application of moisturizing drops or ointments – these are available directly from us. Allow yourself sufficient rest during the first few days to support the healing process. Lymphatic drainage can also help reduce swelling more quickly. As soon as the initial healing phase is complete, you will receive detailed information from us on scar care.

The healing process is individual but mostly uncomplicated.

Typical course:

  • Work break and avoiding bending forward during the first 5–7 days, light activities are always possible
  • Sports break for about 2 weeks
  • Final result visible after 3–6 months

We accompany you with follow-up appointments and individual advice through every phase of your healing.

The costs depend on the scope of the procedure, the chosen treatment method, and your individual circumstances. We will provide a cost estimate during a personal consultation.
